SMM10 31 March news: recently, OM Sarawak released its three quarterly results this year. Results show that its Butucrek (Bootu Creek) manganese mine in northern Australia produced 276600 tons of manganese in the third quarter, with an average grade of 35.99%, a record.
Production and Marketing of Q3 in its holding Butkrik Manganese Mine
During the quarter, a total of 2.31 million cubic metres of raw materials, including 588018 tons of ore, were mined at the Butucrek (Bootu Creek) manganese mine, with a Mn content of 23.35 per cent, of which mining activities in the Shekuma 6 and Chugga Far North mines continued. Chugga Far North's project continues, and the next phase of mining has begun in the current quarter, with improvements in ore mining and manganese grade in the third quarter compared with the previous quarter. This was mainly due to ore exposure in the large mining area of Shekuma 6, which led to increased production at the processing plant in the third quarter.
Mining efforts are concentrated on the eastern edge of Bootu Creek Syncline, which improves mining efficiency and reduces unit costs due to the proximity of the Shekuma 6 and Chugga Far North deposits to processing plants, mining workshops and related infrastructure. With the completion of the Shekuma 6 project, mining work will be relocated to the western edge of Bootu Creek Syncline, where Masai,Tourag and Yaka will be exploited, and deposits from the western edge will become raw materials for processing plants.
Total amount of ore mining:
In terms of transport, a total of 251972 tons of manganese products were exported from Darwin port through six ships in the current quarter, a small increase of 0.35 per cent from seven ships of 251104 tons of manganese ore products in the same period last year.
In terms of tailings treatment, in view of the large inventory of low-grade ore and heavy media waste, the tailings retreatment plant is expected to produce about 250000 tons of manganese powder per year, with an average grade of between 35 and 38 per cent, for about eight years after production.
Production and marketing of Q3 ferrosilicon and manganese alloy in Sarawak
OM Sarawak has a ferroalloy smelting project at Sarawak Samara (Samalaju) Industrial Park in Sarawak, Malaysia, which has eight major workshops with 16 25.5MVA furnaces, 10 ferrosilicon production furnaces and 6 manganese alloy production furnaces. The plant is designed to produce about 200000 to 210000 tons of ferrosilicon and 250000 to 300000 tons of manganese alloy per year. As of September 30, 2018, a total of 16 furnaces have been put into operation, of which 9 furnaces produce standard grade ferrosilicon, 1 furnace produces refined ferrosilicon and 6 furnaces produce manganese alloy.
Production and marketing of ferrosilicon and manganese alloys:
In the third quarter, the factory produced a total of 58121 tons of ferrosilicon, an increase of 11.4 percent over the previous month, and 54628 tons of manganese alloy, a decrease of 9.15 percent from the previous quarter. The decline in production was mainly due to the higher grade of manganese alloy developed and produced. These high grade manganese alloys require more productivity. Among them, the factory successfully produced high-quality SiMn ("low-carbon silicon and manganese") during the quarter, thus expanding the product portfolio and upgrading the status of OM Sarawak to one of the few ferroalloy manufacturers who can supply strategic resources in batches. This product is suitable for stainless steel industry.
In terms of ferrosilicon, the average daily output of each furnace this quarter is about 64 tons, the same as that of the previous quarter. It is reported that since the first quarter, the actual daily output of the furnace has exceeded the design capacity of 55 tons per day. The actual production of SiMn and HCFeMn furnaces also exceeded their respective designed capacity of 100t SiMn and 150t HCFeMn, per day, with an average daily production of 102t and 152t, respectively, as of the third quarter.
Increase or decrease in production in the first three quarters:
In terms of sales, a total of 61179 tons of ferrosilicon and 57097 tons of manganese alloy were sold in the quarter, up 36.66 percent and 6.16 percent from 44766 tons of ferrosilicon and 53782 tons of manganese alloy in the second quarter, mainly due to strong demand for ferroalloys.
Sales volume increase or decrease in the first three quarters:
Production and Marketing of Q3 in Qinzhou smelter and Sintering Plant
Production and marketing data of manganese alloy and manganese sintered ore:
This quarter, Qinzhou smelter and sintering plant produced a total of 8283 tons of manganese alloy and 9495 tons of manganese sinter, selling 11718 tons of manganese alloy.
Increase or decrease in production:
Increase or decrease in sales:
